Romero’s next zoms

JoBloJoBlo

As the resident zombie fanatic around here, I’m obviously excited that legendary undead wrangler George Romero is doing another Dead film. Although I found the social commentary of DIARY OF THE DEAD was a bit “on the nose” compared to Romero’s past subtext, it’s still great to know he’s playing in the same general graveyard.

Movieset talked to producer Nicolas Chartier, who says that the movie is not a direct sequel to DIARY and is as yet untitled (but is being referred to as SOMETHING OF THE DEAD). Romero is gearing up to shoot the film (and rotting heads) in Toronto, and perhaps in a nod to Fulci’s infamous zombie-versus-shark scene, will apparently be taking the action into the drink. “We’re shooting underwater zombies,” Chartier said. “They’re swimming, grabbing people’s legs, pulling them down. It’s a lot of fun.

Romero, however, also told schlock around the clock that his latest features at least a couple of characters from DIARY (unless script changes have since been made), and that the movie is about “tribalism” — “How the internet creates a Hatfields and McCoys situation.” he says. “It’s on an island, where people have been lured by someone on the net as a safe haven, but really what these guys are trying to do is hold them up at the boat docks.” Guess that explains the submerged zombies.

Romero also says he wants to make a “balls-out comedy” that is “like the Coyote and Roadrunner movie… with a zombie and a human!
