Bay says no to TF2?

As the whole fabricated hi-def DVD war starts to heat up, even filmmakers are vehemently voicing their opinion. For example, director and chief object exploder Michael Bay was apparently so chafed that Paramount would put TRANSFORMERS on HD-DVD but not Blu-Ray, he succinctly posted on his message boards the following: “No TRANSFORMERS 2 for me!”

As is often the case on the internets, the statement was taken at face value and spread online like Flashfire (that’s one of the Autobots, right?), obviously without taking into consideration that it could be an emotional reaction or exaggeration. You know, since the TRANSFORMERS movie franchise is worth several hundred million dollars and all.

Unsurprising to anyone with an IQ higher than fried mozzarella, it’s pretty much the case that Bay was only venting aggravation (just in a form slightly different from his customary on-screen obliteration). Bay’s webmaster later posted the following message: “I spoke to Michael a few minutes ago. He said he just wants people to know that we should be able to view his movies in the format of our choice. Period. Nothing more, nothing less.” [Ed. note: Bay issued a retraction late on Tuesday saying, “I heard where Paramount is coming from and the future of HD and players that will be close to the $200 mark which is the magic number. I like what I heard…So I think I might be back on to do TRANSFORMERS 2!”]

So good news for fans of the movie (but bad news for Bay-haters). Assuming there’s a sequel (probably a safe assumption), Bay could indeed be giving huge robots their destruction orders and crafting massive amounts of collateral damage.
