The Swarm is coming

Might as well get this out of the way first: this is NOT a remake of the 1978 disaster film about deadly bees… which makes me kind of sad.

Instead, this new THE SWARM is a planned adaptation of Frank Schatzing’s novel about a looming ecological doomsday from the ocean, and the scientists trying to prevent it. Dino de Laurentiis and a group of German investors are throwing tons of money at the project (instead of, say, funding the actual research to avoid our impending global catastrophe), which is described as “THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW meets THE ABYSS”.

Writer Ted Tally has been given the task of saving the planet via screenplay — he’s got some experience with the whole “turning books into movies” thing, and he’s got the Oscar to prove it for SILENCE OF THE LAMBS.
