Josh Boone (director of THE FAULT IN OUR STARS) sure loves Stephen King. In addition to the King projects he's developing for himself to direct – he's planning a multi-film adaptation of THE STAND, has Russell Crowe attached to star in an adaptation of REVIVAL, and has King's permission to turn LISEY'S STORY into a film – Boone is also executive producing a short film adaptation of King's story MY PRETTY PONY, which is part of the Nightmares & Dreamscapes collection.
The short will center on
an elderly man on his deathbed who gives his young grandson a pocket watch and warns the boy against the dangers of letting time slip away.
SAW's Tobin Bell is signed on to play the elderly man, with Noah Jupe as his young grandson.
Luke Jaden wrote the adaptation of MY PRETTY PONY and will be directing the short, which is being produced by Phil Wurtzel of Friel Films. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones is executive producing with Boone. Filming is scheduled to take place in Michigan this spring.
I have read the MY PRETTY PONY story, but that was a long time ago and I don't really remember it. I do know that it's not exactly a horror story, but anything King is always worth checking out, whether it's horror or not.
The next big King film coming down the line is, of course, the first part of the two-part IT adaptation. IT will be reaching theatres on September 8, 2017.
