We already knew it was a probability, but it things just got a bit more real. The Hollywood Reporter has announced Melissa McCarthy is in early talks to join GHOSTBUSTERS 3, which would re-team her with BRIDESMAIDS and THE HEAT director Paul Feig.

That said, it’s far from a done deal. McCarthy has “a very complicated schedule due to her CBS TV show, Mike & Molly,” as well as various movie projects that are already lined up. It remains to be seen if GHOSTBUSTERS 3 will wait things out so that McCarthy will be available; THR posits shooting on the sequel wouldn’t commence until June, which may or may not work for the comedienne.

Interestingly, THR claims McCarthy will be the “lynchpin” of the film, indicating she’ll be the lead.

Jillian Bell (“Workaholics”, 22 JUMP ST.) and “Saturday Night Live” star Cecily Strong are also reportedly meeting with Feig soon. Previously reported actresses like Jennifer Lawrence and Rebel Wilson are said to be out of the running for the flick, although Emma Stone allegedly remains a contender.
