The first time we talked about Richard Raaphorst’s FRANKENSTEIN’S ARMY was way back in April 2009. I remember that because I’m the one that wrote the article! Now here we are, nearly three years later, and I’m writing about the flick’s first day of filming. Something seems wrong with that, doesn’t it?

But hey, at least this thing is rolling finally! MPI/Dark Sky Films, LA-based XYZ Films, and Pellicola of Amsterdam dropped the news today that Raaphorst and company have completed the first day of principal photography, which took place in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. Since when does a first day of filming constitute a news article? When that day took three years to get to!

FRANKENSTEIN’S ARMY takes place toward the end of World War II, as Russian soldiers push into eastern Germany and stumble across a secret Nazi lab, one that has unearthed and begun experimenting with the journal of one Dr. Viktor Frankenstein. The scientists have used the legendary Frankenstein’s work to assemble an army of super-soldiers stitched together from the body parts of their fallen comrades – a desperate Hitler’s last ghastly ploy to escape defeat.

FRANKENSTEIN’S ARMY continues filming in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic as you read this so I’m sure some goods from this thing will spill our way soon.

There’s absolutely no reason for this picture. You’re welcome.
