Last week it was Dreamworks remaking REBECCA, this week it’s Paramount remaking SUSPICION. Won’t the raggedy corpse of Alfred Hitchcock stumble out of the grave and put a stop to this madness? (I guess if he didn’t do it for Gus Van Sant’s PSYCHO, he won’t do it for these. )
As per Variety, Paramount Pictures has tapped Veena Sud – showrunner of AMC’s police procedural/mystery “The Killing” – to write the screenplay for the remake. As far as I can tell, this has nothing to do with the remake Will Smith was evidently planning two years ago. Thankfully, that did not pan out, and we can only hope that it continues to not pan out for the rest of eternity.
Hitch’s original, which starred Cary Grant and Joan Fontaine and was based on Francis Iles’s 1932 novel “Before the Fact”; here’s the synopsis: Lina McLaidlaw waits until she is 30 before accepting a marriage proposal from the feckless and irresponsible Johnnie Aysgarth. As head of a fine household and guardian of both the morals and finances of the man she chose to marry, she finds her husband was, and perhaps still is, a killer.
