Dan Aykroyd talks Ghostbusters 3 rumors and says the script must be perfect

Our last update on GHOSTBUSTERS 3 – and thank goodness it has been a couple months – was back in December, when we heard the amusing rumor that Bill Murray had supposedly sent Dan Aykroyd a shredded copy of the project’s latest draft with a note reading, “No one wants to pay money to see fat, old men chasing ghosts!”

Naturally, this tale was met with skepticism… but it didn’t seem outright preposterous, considering Murray’s legendarily edgy sense of humor and his obvious hesitation to involve himself in GB3.

During a webchat over at Empire Online, Dan Aykroyd has cleared some things up on the GHOSTBUSTERS front, script-shredding and otherwise.

On the Murray-ravaging-the-script rumor: “Bill Murray is not capable of such behaviour. This is simply something that would not be in his nature. We have a deep, private personal relationship that transcends business. We communicate frequently and his position on the involvement in Ghostbusters 3 has been made clear and I respect that. But Bill has too much positive estimation of my writing skills to shred the work.”

On GHOSTBUSTERS 3 in general: “The script must be perfect. We cannot release a film that is any less than that. We have more work to do.”

He also addressed a topic that, as far as I know, has not been brought up much: Where’s Rick Moranis in all this? Will “Louis Tully” be making an appearance in the latest ghostbusting adventure?: ” “If we can get the script to Ghostbusters 3 right, then it would definitely have Moranis as a major component. None of us would want to do the movie without having him as a participant.”

This doesn’t get us any close to actually knowing when GB3 might go forward (if ever), but perhaps it gives a glimmer of hope to those of you who can’t wait to get Slimed again.
