One of the biggest gripes about Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.’s THE THING was the CGI. Personally that shite didn’t really bother me, but I could definitely see how it’d be the biggest fail of the flick. With that being said, I’ve come here today to show you guys what could have been….
You see the guys over at Amalgamated Dynamics, Inc. were hired to work on the practical effects for THE THING. While the end result probably has you asking ‘What practical effects?,’ today we’ve got a couple videos that show us what THE THING should have looked like. The videos, found below and over in our videos section, have Amalgamated Dynamics, Inc. hard at work trying to put together some badass effects for the project. And they succeeded. Why these weren’t used in the final product is beyond me… Just scroll on down below and take a look at this shite for yourself.
When a simple experiment frees the creature from its frozen prison, it unleashes a flood of chaos and paranoia upon the camp, pitting the team against one another. With the ability to mimic the physicality of anything or anyone that it touches, the shape-shifting creature makes everyone a suspect in this suspenseful psychological thriller.
