The last update we got on the remake of the sci-fi classic LOGAN’S RUN came back in June, when director Nicolas Winding Refn and star Ryan Gosling opened up a bit about the project.
Here we are months later and Gosling is once again giving us an update on the film, courtesy of Flixist. The site recently had a chance to chat with Gosling about his upcoming flick DRIVE, which Winding Refn also directed, and the topic of LOGAN’S RUN quickly reared it’s ugly head. When asked how much this new film would be influenced by the original Gosling responded:
“No, because it’s so different from our idea for Logan’s and we want to go back more to the book. Also, we have other ideas. And that film was shot in a mall in the 70s. I can’t see how it would influence us. I’ve been really enjoying the process of developing it. We’re focusing on that. We’re trying to create this world and make a movie we want to see, like we did with Drive.”
So there you have it folks! In case you were pissed about this remake, which you probably were, now perhaps you can rest a bit easier knowing the crew are barely even touching the original film and are instead concentrating on the source material. That’s usually a good thing, right?
It’s the 23rd Century and at age 21… your life is over! Logan-6 has been trained to kill; born and bred from conception to be the best of the best. But his time is short and before his life ends he’s got one final mission: Find and destroy Sanctuary, a fabled haven for those that chose to defy the system. But when Logan meets and falls in love with Jessica, he begins to question the very system he swore to protect and soon they’re both running for their lives.
There’s no telling when LOGAN’S RUN is going to enter into production but my guess would be sooner rather than later so be sure to keep it here for more updates on the sci-fi romp as we hear it.
