Ruairi Robinson (right) has been making waves lately. First, his short film “FIFTY PERCENT GREY” was nominated for an Academy Award, and then he released another impressive short called “BLINKY” online. He was attached to direct the film adaptation of AKIRA but he dropped out, and it was announced last year that he would a horror/sci-fi flick called THE ANIMATORS.
No word on the status of THE ANIMATORS, but Variety has learned that Robinson will direct a high-concept sci-fi picture called THE FALLEN for Lionsgate U.K. and producer Kris Thykier (KICK-ASS). The script is written by Andrew Will. The plot is as follows:
An alien spaceship crash lands in Russia. When it creates a 400-mile electronic dead-zone, international special ops teams are sent in to neutralize it.
The film is looking to enter production early next year with an estimated budget of $35 million.
