Last September we slapped you with the news that Mandalay Pictures was gearing up to turn Sophie Jordan’s young adult (I know, I know) fantasy novel FIRELIGHT into a feature film. I’d never heard of the book, but then again, I’m not exactly in the know when it comes to teen literature. However, I kinda like dragons, so call me hesitantly curious about the project. (Or just call me an idiot.)
The film is now moving forward in earnest; screenwriter Nick Pustay has been tapped to adapt FIRELIGHT. Pustay’s credits thus far aren’t very exciting. He wrote the adaptation of RAMONA AND BEEZUS, the James Franco/Sienna Miller movie CAMILLE that no one’s ever seen or heard of, and the upcoming werewolf flick SHIVER (which we told you about HERE).
So what’s this thing about? Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet among her kind, she nearly pays with her life. Until a beautiful stranger saves her. A stranger who was sent to hunt those like her. For Jacinda is a draki—a descendant of dragons whose greatest defense is her secret ability to shift into human form.
Weird.
No director has been brought aboard yet, but I’d expect that announcement should come soon enough. (Provided Pustay’s screenplay doesn’t blow.)
