Todd McFarlane talks Spawn 2: Low budget Spawn on the way?

Way back in August we learned that Todd McFarlane had started working on the script for SPAWN 2, the sequel to his 1997 film SPAWN. Alright…. Fast forward six months. What’s going on now Mr. McFarlane?

The folks over at Newsarama asked that very question!

“I’m 80% through the script, I did my due diligence, went around Hollywood …I listened to the pitch from all the big studios, but I just went, ‘nah, I need to make this small and tight and contained.’”

What is the man talking about? Well apparently McFarlane has decided to go about this solo, writing, directing and producing the film on his own. The SPAWN creator hopes a small budget will allow him to make the film his own way and still catch some studio attention, in which he says three smaller Hollywood studios have already shown interest! Another option McFarlane is juggling is to actually finance the film himself as well and just go about the entire project in his own way. Either way it sounds like McFarlane is going to take his time with this ‘creepy and scary’ sequel, hopefully doing it right. For the whole interview you can head right over HERE!

Al Simmons, a CIA agent, was killed by his own boss, Jason Wynn, after witnessing his boss’ “indiscretions”. Simmons was sent to hell, where in a desperate attempt to see his wife one last time, he made a deal with the devil Malebolgia, and unwittingly, to become a “Hellspawn”, a General in Hells Army. Spawn has tried to retain his own humanity while finding a way out of Malebolgia’s control and battling a variety of enemies, both supernatural and criminal.

What do you guys think? Is a low-budget SPAWN flick looking promising or do you think the character should just stick to comics? Hit us with your opinions below and keep it here for more on SPAWN 2 as we hear it!
