Shimizu Sings Song

Takashi Shimizu is a busy man. He’s basically behind the entire GRUDGE/JU-ON franchise and he’s also working on Japan’s first live action 3-D film: THE SHOCK LABYRINTH 3-D. Well that’s not stopping Shimizu from starting another project here in the US!

According to Variety the director just signed up to bring us an untitled thriller about a killer song for Phoenix Pictures. I’m not kidding. The project, scripted by Chris Philpott, will be about a haunted song that drives its listeners to suicide. Doesn’t seem completely original but I’ll take it. The idea for the film came from Taka Ichise and Shimizu himself. Ichise will produce with Phoenix Pictures’ Mike Medavoy, Arnold Messer and Brad Fischer. Ozla Pictures’ VP Erin Eggers will executive produce while Steve Zegans serves as co-producer.

I get the feeling this one is going to fall right into the category all those other Japanese-horror themed flicks fall under. Regardless we’ll be keeping a close eye on this killer tune and will update you all once we hear more!
