I find it quite shocking that I’ve never heard of DEADWORLD before. In case you’re in the same boat as I am let me tell you a story. DEADWORLD is a comic series that depicts an apocalypse in which humans are overrun by flesh-eating corpses. It picks up four months after that event, where the Dead overtake the Earth, with humans few and far between. Protag is King Zombie, a Harley-riding corpse who holds a grudge against the survivors who made him an outcast.

So we’ve got all kinds of character-driven plots within a world of zombies? Awesome! Sign me up! Now if you’re suddenly as into DEADWORLD as I am then get ready for some even better news! Variety are dropping word today that DEADWORLD is being set to be made into not just a movie… but a whole franchise! Dark Hero Studios and Pandemonium are teaming up to put this one together with Framelight and Pandemonium financing.

Dark Hero’s David Hayter and Pandemonium’s Bill Mechanic are producing with Framelight’s Robert L. Robinson Jr. and Jeffrey D. Erb. Dark Hero’s Benedict Carver is set to executive produce alongside Pandemonium’s Suzanne Warren and DEADWORLD writer and co-creator Gary Reed. Hayter will not only be penning the script but he’ll also conceive and design the look of the movie. Production on the first film is set to start next year. Hayter had the following to say: “It’s very much about the design of the Deadworld and creating cool, frightening but not necessarily gory creatures. I am a huge fan of zombie mythology.”

Mechanic added: “I’ve never done anything close to this subject, but I loved the whole world because it’s so unique.” So that’s the just of it! Sounds like this one has some monster potential! As always you can keep it here for any other DEADWORLD news we hear.

Hayter also penned the Malin Akerman starring WATCHMEN.
