By now we should all be aware that another PREDATOR film is on the way. Reboot or sequel… call it what you will but it’s coming. We also know that it’s coming from Robert Rodriguez. So suddenly because this flick is a sequel and not a remake… it’s ok. At least that’s the going consensus.
Why are we alright with this movie? Well just last week we heard that Rodriguez’s camp at Troublemaker Studios have apparently already started pursuing Arnold Schwarzenegger to reprise his role as Major Alan “Dutch” Schaefer from PREDATOR! Whether for a quick cameo or a slightly larger one.
Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news… but this isn’t the case at all. Harry from over at Ain’t It Cool News smelled something fishy so he decided to shoot Rodriguez a quick email to ask what the dealio was. Yes… i just said dealio. I’m that distraught. Here’s what Rodriguez said:

Actually, what probably happened is someone conjured that up because of my 1994 draft, that had Dutch as a main character. And then it probably just built from there.
But no, we’re still writing a new script, and although I know Arnold personally and he’s the coolest person on the planet, I have not contacted him about this at all at this time.
As promised, I’ll keep you posted on such developments since Predator is such a fan favorite.
But then again, he could very well have told someone he’d be into it. Who knows?
Personally, I haven’t heard anything. But it’s still early in the day.

Oh Robert Rodriguez… how quick you are to shatter our dreams. Of course this could be Rodriguez’s attempt at downsizing the good word until it’s official… but I’m going to go ahead and take his word for it. I’m also going to throw caution to the wind and say I’m all for PREDATORS with Rodriguez behind things. AICN also add that Rodriguez is hard at work looking for a capable name at directing this one. So far I’ll put this one on the ‘interest peaked’ pile while we await more. But come on… the return of ‘Dutch’ would be pretty damn epic, no?
