I’m a big fan of last years JACK BROOKS: MONSTER SLAYER. The flick was a campy monster movie that didn’t take itself seriously at all… these guys went all out! And they nailed it. From giant monsters shooting ooze to awesome lead characters these guys knew what they were doing when it came to entertaining. Well the relative underground success of JACK BROOKS has seemed to cement a sequel seeing how the producers recently gave an update on JACK BROOKS 2 over at their MySpace blog!

Hello Myspace Friends and Fiends,
We are busy despite the silence, and now it’s time to holla at the world, and tell you what’s new in our rotation. First up, Jon Knautz and Brendan Moore along with Trevor Matthews created the outline for Jack Brooks 2. The script is well under way, and coming along nicely. There’s a whole LOT more action (AKA monster slaying). Jack fights a whole bunch of different kinds of nasties. He is also forced to partner up for one of his adventures, and as we know Jack is a bit of a lone wolf.
We also have a film deep in the script stages and we WILL be shooting this new film in the summer of ’09. It’s a straight horror film this time around. It revolves around a group of journalists who go to investigate a small village in Europe where human sacrifice is reputed to still go on. It’s dark and brutal like a Dethklok song.
Well that sounds like all kinds of awesome! Not only are we getting a (better?) JACK BROOKS adventure but we’re also getting an all out horror from the same guys? Granted I’m not big on the whole ‘human sacrifice’ sub-genre but I’ll give these guys a shot! I’m the most stoked to hear that Trevor Matthews is definitely down for bringing back the Jack Brooks character.
Sure Bruce Campbell’s Ash is legendary, and when I compared the two a friend of mine scoffed in my face… but I stand by my opinion that Jack Brooks is the new Ash, and may even be better. Everything about Brooks was awesome and that’s entirely thanks to Matthews. So here’s hoping we get even more in the sequel! Plus we get to see Brooks team with another character? Intriguing. We’ll of course be keeping a close eye on this one, so keep it here for updates!
