Strange that we haven’t heard anything on Frank Darabont’s LAW ABIDING CITIZEN until now. If your hearing about this for the first time as well, let me fill you in. LAW ABIDING CITIZEN is about a successful assistant D.A. who finds himself at the center of a vigilante plot hatched by a traumatized victim of the legal system. The victim is devastated to learn that, because of a plea bargain, one of his wife and daughter’s murderers will be set free. So he unleashes revenge on the killers and those who made the deal.
Sounds pretty cool, right? Now remember… Frank Darabont will be bringing this one to the screen. Sounds better right? And here’s the icing on the cake, CITIZEN will star Gerard Butler as said D.A. and Jamie Foxx (above) as the victim. Well Foxx isn’t signed yet apparently, The Hollywood Reporter points out that he’s in final negotiations. Gravy!
Maybe it’s just me… but I’m stoked for some twisted revenge lined up! And a pretty good actor in Jamie Foxx as the one dishing it out? With Darabont behind the camera? Oh I’m definately down!
The script for LAW ABIDING CITIZEN comes from the duo of Darabont and Kurt Wimmer. It’s being pegged as a psychological thriller (awesome!) and is being produced by Evil Twin’s Butler and Alan Siegel along with Warp Films’ Lucas Foster and Film Department’s Mark Gill. Film Department’s Robert Katz and Neil Sacker will be executive producing.
As I’m sure you know, Darabont has brought us flicks like THE MIST, THE GREEN MILE, and THE SHAWSHANK REDEMTPION, plus he’s penned THE FLY 2, THE BLOB, and NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3… so the man is established! And as you can see, he kicks ass when it comes to psychological thrillers! Wimmer has been around as well, penning movies like STREET KINGS, ULTRAVIOLET, THE RECRUIT, and EQUILIBRIUM.
