Ah SAW V. It hits us this Halloween, what a shocker. That’s just about two months away… so my gut is telling me we’re going to get a lot of SAW media in the coming weeks. Why? Because the SAW franchise has become a trend. Seems like the SAW movies are nothing more than a ‘cool’ date movie for late October/early November. You know how I’ve come to this conclusion? Because after the last two films, people who don’t know the first thing about horror were ready to sing the praises of the SAW sequels… and it actually made me sick.
Don’t get me wrong, I love SAW. I thought it was a brilliant flick the whole way through. SAW 2, although a bit more… ‘Hollywood’… rocked pretty hard too. But from there the franchise gave me nothing positive.
Maybe that’s just me. But regardless, the very sour taste the last two films have left in my mouth have me not looking forward to SAW V at all. Truth is, I could really care less about SAW V. Will I see it in theaters? Probably not… but my love for horror will get the best of me and I will eventually see it…
Enough of my rambling though. Let’s get into the brass facts of SAW V. Here’s the oh-so exciting synopsis: Forensics expert Hoffman goes on the hunt in order to protect the secret that he is the newest person to carry on Jigsaw’s legacy. David Hackl is directing from a script by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan. It stars Julie Benz, Meagan Good (below), Costas Mandylor, Scott Patterson, Betsy Russell, and in some way or another Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith, regardless of the fact they both died two films ago. It hits theaters October 24.
