I know I’ve mentioned before how I’m a huge fan of Vin Diesel’s Riddick character… well here’s a chance for me to talk more about that psychopathic badass.
We’re pretty aware that Vin Diesel’s BABYLON A.D. is opening this Friday right? And that the director seems to be a tad unhappy with the finished product. Now although I’d like to see what Matthieu Kassovitz had planned… a futuristic flick starring Vin Diesel tagged ‘pure violence’ doesn’t sound half bad. Anyway, couple that with Diesel’s upcoming FAST AND FURIOUS and it seems like Vin might be seeing a bit of a comeback from his ‘family film’ probation period?
What am I getting at? Well Diesel spoke to MTV recently where he ‘shockingly’ brought up his plans for not one, but two more Riddick movies! I say shockingly with a hint of sarcasm because Diesel has been expressing his interest to make another Riddick flick for some time now… dare I say it’s looking like it might actually be possible with his potential return to action flicks? Here’s what Diesel had to say:
“David Twowy right now is writing the scripts. The only question is whether we take a page from the ‘Lord of the Rings’ guys and try to shoot the two chapters at the same time. There are two more in mind. ‘The Chronicles of Riddick’ was presented as a three part trilogy that would answer ‘Pitch Black’ in the same way that ‘Lord of the Rings’ answered ‘The Hobbit.’”
Mr. Twowy is the man who wrote the first two Riddick films of course, having a pretty impressive resume beyond that as well. So what do you think? Yay or nay for more Riddick?
While I can always beemingly suggest PITCH BLACK to folks looking for a badass sci-fi action flick with a ridiculously cool villain/hero, THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK is a different story. It just never looked appealing to me so I haven’t even given that a watch yet. So Diesel’s hints that Riddick would eventually end up in the ‘Underverse’ mean nothing to me… but the prospect of Riddick on the big screen again is intriguing. As always, we’ll keep you updated once we hear more.. meanwhile spit back below on whether you think we should see more Riddick or not.
