There’s this interesting project currently in production that I’ve never heard of. It comes from Roland Becerra and is based off his short film of the same title: DEAR BEAUTIFUL.
Firstly… I don’t know why… but I love that title. The simplicity to it? Just the idea of all the things it could mean? It’s a great title. Couple that with what this project is and we have something to take note of.
Here’s the lengthly synopsis for DEAR BEAUTIFUl from the writers themselves: The sudden appearance of exotic flowers in New Haven spawns an unprecedented epidemic rumored to be the result of a botched experiment by cosmetics giant, V-Zone. Paul and Lauren, a married couple, are caught between the catastrophe and their own troubled relationship when Lauren encounters one of the flowers and becomes infected. As her symptoms worsen, Paul’s denial of Lauren’s illness puts the couple in grave danger as the city is overrun with infected people, media frenzy, National Guard, protesters and a panicked populace. Struggling to maintain a normal daily life, Paul engages in a battle of wills with his best friend and business partner, Roger, as Paul tries to deny his wife’s condition and Roger tries to take matters into his own hands. As the epidemic reaches a climax, Paul must confront the reality of his situation as well as the monster his friend has become.
Sounds pretty twisted right? Now to the most interesting part… the film is completely in some sort of animation. It’s kind of hard to explain the exact kind of animiation they’re using, seeing how I couldn’t really tell from the trailer. It definately looks like a video game, not the smooth stuff from the newer games, but a slightly more blocky, delayed feel… and it works perfectly with the flick!
Or at least it seems it does. I’m still pretty confused as to exactly what’s going on with DEAR BEAUTIFUL, but I can tell it’s something interesting. You can check out the trailer below, which comes from Quiet Earth.
DEAR BEAUTIFUL comes from a script by Becerra and Meredith DiMenna with Becerra directing. The tagline reads: Don’t Rip Souls Apart. Sign me up! As always, we’ll keep you updated. As for the gorgeous female below the video… she gives ‘Dear Beautiful’ a whole other meaning…
