Music of Babylon

The newest Vin Diesel sci-fi action flick hasn’t been getting much publicity. Maybe it’s because the flick doesn’t hit theaters until August 29. Or maybe it’s the fact that this is Vin Diesel’s return to the gritty hard stuff he seems to be at home with. Fact is… we’re not seeing much from BABYLON A.D… yet.

Hopefully within the next couple months we’ll be seeing a lot more of Diesel kicking ass. Until then I’ve got a pretty interesting news bit about the music of BABYLON A.D. to hold you over.

Over at the Denver Westworld Blogs they have an interview with composer/rapper/actor/leader of the Wu-Tang Clan RZA (or Robert Diggs). They dropped a question to RZA about BABYLON A.D. and here was his answer:

“…We’ve got a movie called Babylon A.D. starring Vin Diesel and directed by Mathieu Kassovitz. It’s a big, big blockbuster type movie, big sci-fi type movie that comes out in September, and I’m involved with the score on that one. They actually combined me with Hans Zimmer and his team. The RZA’s team and Hans Zimmer’s team have combined to create a hybrid kind of score for this movie that’s based in the future. So I think it’s going to be a good vibe for the audience out there, and it’s a good movie anyway – a very thought-provoking movie.

Hans Zimmer and RZA? Doing the same movie? .. I’m down! Especially when that movie is a futuristic thriller with Vin Diesel playing an veteran/mercenary. No telling if the actual release date has really been pushed back to September though.

Hans Zimmer’s credits are really too impressive to try and list. They range from COOL RUNNINGS to THE ROCK to THE RING to THE DARK KNIGHT and literally everything in between. RZA’s got more of a hip-hop (obviously), gritty batch of credits. So having these two guys as part of the composing team for BABYLON A.D. should be pretty interesting. I can’t wait to see what they come up with. You can read the rest of the interview right over here, where RZA talks about much more than BABYLON A.D. (including a potential KILL BILL sequel.)

BABYLON A.D. is set to hit theaters everywhere August 29. It’s directed by Mathieu Kassovitz with Eric Besnard penning the script based off the novel by Maurice G. Dantec. It stars Vin Diesel (above), Mélanie Thierry (below), Michelle Yeoh, Lambert Wilson, Mark Strong, and Jérôme Le Banner.
