I’m a big fan of the whole ‘home invasion’ sub-genre that’s been showing up lately. From stuff like VACANCY to THE STRANGERS to my favorite home invasion flick, FUNNY GAMES.
So when Variety described an upcoming flick as the next installment to the home invasion group, I had to take notice. I’m talking about TAKEN, which comes from screenwriter Karl Gajdusek (right).
TAKEN is described as a ’home invasion thriller’ that centers on a marriage coming apart through infidelity and being put back together through unexpected adversity, combined with the high-stakes of a home invasion. I see a lot of potential… but I also see a chance this movie is going to crash and burn. Will they concentrate more on the marriage troubles or on the creeps invading this broken home? Time will tell I suppose.
Gajdusek’s only IMDB credits are for a short lived TV show called DEAD LIKE ME. Funny thing is… last month I really got into DEAD LIKE ME and watched both seasons in the span of a week. Wish that one kept going, had some big time potential. So needless to say I’m stoked even more for TAKEN.
Overture Films picked up TAKEN and pitched it to producers Irwin Winkler and Jill Cutler of Winkler Films. This will be the second time Overture and Winkler Films team, with their previous collaboration being the film DE-LOVELY. One of Overture’s latest films was THE VISITOR, which scored a very limited release but seemed to generate some very positive buzz.
I’ll most definitely be keeping an eye on TAKEN, so we’ll keep you updated on any more news involving the flick.

Why would anyone want to terrorize Naomi Watts?
