It’s been no secret that I’m a big fan of the PRINCE OF PERSIA video games. I’ve been keeping you all updated with the movie adaptation whenever we hear some news and everything is panning out nicely.
The last bit of news was that Disney had found it’s Prince in Mr. Jake Gyllenhaal. Along with Mr. Gyllenhaal, it was also announced that the lovely Gemma Arterton (below) would be the female lead.
I’m a big fan of Jake’s, but to be honest, I’m very skeptical with him in this role. I’m sure I’m not the only one. Well Variety gave us a couple more names heading over to Persia. Those names being Alfred Molina (above) and Ben Kingsley.
I’m stoked for this flick, I really am… but this casting is just not looking good. Gyllenhaal stars as Dastan, a prince in sixth-century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world. Molina will play a mentor to Dastan, Sheik Amar.
Shifty casting aside, I’ve still got high hopes for this one. Mike Newell will be directing a script by Doug Miro, Carlo Bernard, Boaz Yakin, and the game’s creator Jordan Mechner. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing with shooting set to being next month in the UK and Morocco. It’s looking at a big Summer 2009 release.
