A couple months ago we got an update on the METAL GEAR SOLID movie. At that time it was being rumored that Kurt Wimmer would be offered the job of writing and directing… well now a new name has been thrown around..
And that name is Paul Thomas Anderson! That’s some awesome news! As a BIG fan of the METAL GEAR games and a BIG fan of THERE WILL BE BLOOD, consider me colored pink!
Granted… this is NOWHERE near final… it’s actually not much more than a rumor… but it’s something to chew on! It’s more like a jawbreaker actually.
The guys over at Kotaku recently got a chance to talk to Aki Saito. Saito works for Konami and is the one handling the film negotiations… so who better to ask for a METAL GEAR movie update than him? Well he had this to say:
“Hollywood has great respect for Mr. [Hideo] Kojima. They want to meet with him. Kojima will be acting as a producer, but we don’t know how involved he’ll be as a producer. Often Hollywood adaptations have the original game creator involved at the beginning, but somewhere along the line they fall out of view. This is why it’s very important for us to carefully pick the studio for this project.”
That statement is referring to the creator of the METAL GEAR games, Hideo Kojima, and how involved he’ll be. When asked about potential directors, Saito stated:
“Paul Thomas Anderson is interested.”
And that’s all she wrote. That statement alone shoots this METAL GEAR SOLID movie onto a whole other level… and I can’t wait to see what develops! We’ll keep you updated.
