Some interesting news from The Hollywood Reporter has Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures teaming up with Grindstone to bring us… Ghost House Underground!
Your asking yourself.. ‘And?’ right now, aren’t you? I’m getting to that. See, Grindstone is a major distributor of direct-to-video flicks. As most know, direct-to-video usually means stuff not good enough for theaters, but there are usually several hidden gems hidden amongst these flicks.
As most probably know, Ghost House Pictures centers on distributing horror flicks, run by the great Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Mandate Pictures’ Nathan Kahane. With this new company they’re looking to release 12-20 flicks a year direct-to-video.
Tapert had the following to say: “We believe the next great horror film is going to come from fresh, bold voices working outside the system. We aim to find these films and share them with genre fans everywhere.”
Raimi added in regards to Ghost House Underground: “…will give life to terrifying films that the fans would otherwise never have an opportunity to see.”
Sounds like another Dimension Extreme or After Dark Films. It starts up this October. It’s first released group will consist of 8 flicks. Ready for the kicker? One of the first flicks to come from Ghost House Underground will be the Finnish monster movie DARK FLOORS! We’ve updated you all on DARK FLOORS throughout it’s production, the last update came in February, and it’s actually looked like a pretty fun ride. So this news is definately welcomed by me, if only to check out DARK FLOORS.
DARK FLOORS was written by Pekka Lehtosaari and directed by Pete Riski. The detailed synopsis reads: Concerned for her autistic daughter’s health, the father sees a removal from the hospital by force as the only option. An elevator break-down prevents a smooth exit and renders them trapped with others. Yet the incident is only the beginning of a descent into nightmare. As the doors open the hospital appears mysteriously deserted. When mutilated bodies are found, creatures from a dark world start a frightening attack. It soon becomes clear that the survival of the group may rest solely on the little girl. It stars Noah Huntley, Skye Bennett, Philip Bretherton, William Hope, Ronald Pickup, Leon Herbert, Ossi Mykkänen, and Dominique McElligott. The idea for the flick actually came from the Finnish band Lordi, who play the monsters in DARK FLOORS.
The other flicks set to come to us from Ghost House Underground include: Martin Barnewitz’s ROOM 205 – Ole Bornedal’s THE SUBSTITUTE – Igor Shavlak’s TRACKMAN – Gabriele Albanesi’s LAST HOUSE IN THE WOODS and BROTHERHOOD OF BLOOD from Michael Roesch and Peter Scheerer.
