We’ve been keeping updated on the basics of SHELTER, like the casing news of Julianne Moore (below) and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. What about the other cast? Read on.
The flick is about a female forensic psychiatrist who specializes in debunking multiple personality disorder. When she discovers that her latest patient’s various personalities are all murder victims, she struggles to find a logical explanation for the man’s delusion.
It’s being directed by the duo of Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein with multiple personalities expert Michael Cooney (IDENTITY) writing the script. Well there’s some very interesting news coming from the Pittsburgh Tribune. Yeah, the Pittsburgh Tribune. They’re reporting on a very interesting casting call for SHELTER.
Apparently Donna Belajac Casting are asking for the following characteristics for extras in SHELTER:
“Men and women of all races, 18 or older. Gothic characters — including an albino-like girl and deformed people — to depict West Virginia mountain people. Extraordinarily tall or short. Unusual body shapes, even physical abnormalities as long as there is normal mobility. Unusual facial features, especially eyes. A 9-12-year-old Caucasian girl with an other-worldly look to her. Could be an albino or something along those lines — she’s someone who is visually different and therefore has a closer contact to the gods and to magic. ‘Regular-looking’ children should not attend this open call.'”
Needless to say this has caused some unhappy West Virginians. Belajac’s reponse to placing all West Virginians to this characterization:
“We tried to word it in a way that’s not offensive. I hope it’s not an offensive thing. It’s not meant to be a generalization about everyone in West Virginia. That’s why we put that it’s in a ‘holler’ in the mountains.”
So obviously there was nothing meant by the casting call, just looking for what the script calls for. Still pretty interesting though, even gives a bit of insight as to what else we can expect from the plot maybe? To read up more on the situation, head on over here.
