Well it looks like hip hop horror stories are what’s cool. Or at least semi-cool… or at least cool enough for Paramount Pictures to greenlight another collection of short hip hop horror stories.
According to Variety, Paramount have signed DJ Classicz, Davis Entertainement’s urban genre label, to bring us some SHADEY TALEZ. John Davis and Dallas Jackson will be producing with Gotham-based record label Violator’s Chris Lighty and Mona Scott executive producing.
Jackson and Marlon Chapman will be writing three stories for the flick. The stories are described as ‘urban horror stories that pay hip-hop homage to classic horror films.’ Classic horror films? That’s pretty interesting. Jackson had the following to say about the project:
“We intend to marry each of the stories with a hot director from the musicvideo and/or film world along with Violator’s hip-hop talent roster.”
So looks like SHADEY TALEZ will be something along the lines of TALES FROM THE HOOD or SNOOP DOGG’S HOOD OF HORROR. That whole ‘classic horror films’ spin might set it apart from the others though. We’ll keep you updated.
I wouldn’t mind seeing hip hop hottie Rihanna tackling a genre flick.
