The last time we talked about CIRQUE DU FREAK, Josh Hutcherson and Chris Kelly had joined John C. Reilly in the cast. Now we have a HUGE name joining that trio…. JoBlo.com favorite Salma Hayek!
We haven’t heard much from Hayek since her pregnancy… well Salma, welcome back! And what a way to come back! In a twisted genre flick that’s going in all directions. I’m picturing CIRQUE DU FREAK as a dark children’s story. Like in between PAN’S LABYRINTH and HARRY POTTER. Variety says it’s a horror/drama. I’m down. Time will tell I guess.
CIRQUE DU FREAK centers on a vampire who drafts a 14-year old to serve as his assistant. The youth is turned into a half-vampire and becomes the catalyst in a battle between vampires and the rival Vampanese. Reilly will be playing said vampire with (I’m assuming) Hutcherson playing the main child. Hayek will be playing the bearded lady, Madame Truska.
CIRQUE DU FREAK is based off the novel by Darren Shan. Paul Weitz will be directing as well as producing alongside Lauren Shuler Donner and Brian Helgeland. Production starts next month.
