News coming in from MTV is that the brilliant mind of Guillermo del Toro is interested in directing a HARRY POTTER film! That’s some pretty sweet news. First FRANKENSTEIN and now HARRY POTTER? Man, del Toro is really showing interest in some perfect projects.

It’s no secret that Warner Brothers have approached del Toro to direct a POTTER film before, namely HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN, considering that was my favorite book of the series, it would’ve been awesome seeing del Toro bring it to the screen. Though it was not meant to be, del Toro tells MTV:

“They came to me once, for the third one. I’ve read them all, and when I read the books before the movies were done, I always pictured Charles Dickens – they were very Dickens-ian. The situation of Harry Potter reminded me a lot of Pip from ‘Great Expectations.’ I saw them as deeper, more creaky, more corroded; then [the stories] were textured very differently when the first two movies came out. They were so bright and happy and full of light, that I wasn’t interested.”

His take on the series would make for a pretty great POTTER film. And now we might get the chance to see him do it. del Toro says:

“I’m up to be the one who kills twenty guys. They seem to be getting eerie and darker … If they come back to me, I’ll think about it.”

Now I stopped reading the books after the fifth one, and the fifth film was a total let down. Although I didn’t read it, I know the just of the last book, the whole DEALTHY HALLOWS story, how can you not? And seeing how HALLOWS was the darkest of the series, could you imagine it being brought to the screen by del Toro? Let’s hope Warner Brothers leaps at the opportunity.
