TERMINATOR SALVATION: THE FUTURE BEGINS. So all those T4 rumors were leading somewhere. That right there is the official title to the next Terminator film according to Variety.
Some other big news coming from Variety, a whole list of interesting tidbits. Firstly, Warner Brothers have acquired the rights to the franchise, ripping them right from the gripped fingertips of MGM. WB has announced that production on TERMINATOR SALVATION: THE FUTURE BEGINS will start in just a few months in the beginning of 2008. They’re aiming to release it sometime in the Summer of 2009. So they’re really going to put a lot into this one.
The studio “seeks to reinvent the cyborg saga with a storyline to be told over a three-pic span.” And “”TERMINATOR SALVATION” was deliberately not given a number after its title, because Halcyon is eager to make it clear that the fourth film heads into an entirely different setting.”
TERMINATOR SALVATION: THE FUTURE BEGINS was written by the guys behind TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES, John Brancato and Michael Ferris. And while the producers say there’s nobody lined up to direct yet, there’s some strong rumors circulating the net that McG (CHARLIE’S ANGELS) is going to get the job. Speaking of rumors, it’s also being speculated that Vin Diesel might be putting on the shades and being a Terminator in this one. Now it’s been said that the story for this fourth film will involve John Connor and Kate Brewster, but will not center on them.
The company that sued MGM for the Terminator rights, Halycon’s co-CEO Derek Anderson had this to say: “This is set in the future, in a full-scale war between Skynet and humankind.” So basically this one is starting anew. The future the original Terminator was sent from, that’s where these next three films will be taking place it seems. T3 exec producer Moritz Borman had the following to say: “The third film was really the conclusion of what happened in the ‘now.’ You will find the most-loved characters, but the intention here is to present a fresh new world and have this be the first of a trilogy.”
And one of the big questions that I’m sure is still on everyone’s mind… what about Arnold? Well according to Borman: “We’ve left it open for him to maybe do a cameo. He has an important job, as we know, and the final decision will be based on his desire and availability, along with what the director wants.”
So there’s a chance. Love him or hate him, a cameo by The Govinator would be great. So it looks like TERMINATOR SALVATION: THE FUTURE BEGINS is on the fast track to being one of the potential blockbusters of the 2009 summer.
