Vampires at Twilight

Another vampire flick? I’m honestly impressed. Hollywood is just eating up this vampire craze. And like I mentioned with my story on BALTIMORE, I’m not complaining. I dig vampire flicks, so I’m looking forward to this wave of movies. The newest one to join the pandemonium is TWILIGHT.

TWILIGHT is originally a novel by Stephenie Meyer about a 17-year-old girl who moves to a small town to live with her father, and is drawn to a pale mysterious classmate who comes from a family of vampires. It seems like the story eventually comes down to a vampire versus vampire thing, so that’s cool.

TWILIGHT will be written by Melissa Rosenberg (who’s also a co-exec producer on Showtime’s DEXTER). It’ll be directed by Catherine Hardwicke, who has expeirence with the teen crowd with LORDS OF DOGTOWN and THIRTEEN. I’m a fan of both those flicks, as well as DEXTER, so I think I’m going to like this one. The film is being released by Summit Entertainment.

TWILIGHT is actually the first in a series of novels by Meyer, the two sequels being NEW MOON and ECLIPSE, with at least two more in the works. So this could turn into quite the franchise for Summit. Summit production president Eric Feig called the series a “publishing phenomenon.”

With this and the news that NIGHTMARE ACADEMY will be made into at least one film, it looks like people are really trying to cash in and become the next HARRY POTTER. We’ll keep you updated on any news regarding TWILIGHT.
