Some great news coming today for all the Romero fans out there. The Weinstein Company has purchased the rights to George A. Romero’s DIARY OF THE DEAD for a reported $2-2.5 million.
Considering DIARY OF THE DEAD was generating some huge buzz, and no one had picked it up for distribution yet, I (among a lot of others I’m sure) was getting a little antsy as to when this one would finally get picked up. And alas, we didn’t have to wait too long. DIARY OF THE DEAD scared the bejesus out of the crowd at the Midnight Madness section in Toronto recenelty, so this one is looking like it’s going to be something great.
In case you don’t know (shame on you!) DIARY OF THE DEAD centers on a group of documentary film makers who stumble into the zombie uprising. It’s starring a bunch of no namers, but of course it has the man himself, George A. Romero, writing and directing. Romero has said he went back to his roots with DIARY, to get the indie feel we all loved about NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.
In case your wondering, DIARY OF THE DEAD has been slated for a theatrical release, the date seems to be unknown as of now, but we’ll keep you updated.
