Stepfather news

Like everything and anything in the horror section at those video stores that still carry VHS, THE STEPFATHER is getting remade. That’s old news. And the fact that J.S. Cardone (PROM NIGHT) is writing the remake isn’t news either. The news is that THE STEPFATHER remake will be directed by PROM NIGHT’s Nelson McCormick.

Now the original’s premise was basically about a man who married widows with children, and when he realized this wasn’t the perfect family, he easily disposed of them, changed his identity and moved onto the next family. The last family he shacked up with involved a teenage girl who just didn’t fit her stepfather’s expectations.

It starred Terry O’Quinn (TV’s LOST) and was directed by Joseph Ruben (THE FORGOTTEN). Apparently it’s a cult classic and has 2 sequels (one theatrical, one direct-to-TV), so who knows how this one will go. Now no actors have been announced for the remake yet, but apparently instead of a teenage girl being the protagonist, it’ll be a teenage boy instead. While we wait for more news on THE STEPFATHER, we have PROM NIGHT to hold us over, which (as noted) pairs J.S. Cardone and Nelson McCormick remaking an 80’s slasher cult hit (apparently a going trend). It stars Brittany Snow (pictured below), Johnathon Schaech, Jessica Stroup, and Brianne Davis, among others. It comes out April 11 of next year.

Brittany Snow… now THAT’S a prom date!
