PAN’S LABYRINTH.
I don’t want to say too much about the clip, except that it’s really cool and
slightly gross. Just to recap, the film is about a young girl living during the
Spanish Civil War. During the fighting the girl stumbles upon a magical
labyrinth, in which she is the supposed lost princess too.
This is the second of Del Toro’s period pieces to revolve around the Spanish
Civil War, with the first being
THE DEVIL’S BACKBONE, a movie which still gives me the creeps.
Supposedly Del Torro will eventually make 3993, which will turn the Spanish war
theme into a trilogy.
As a side not to this article, while watching the clip I realized for the first
time that the film isn’t in English. I know that sounds stupid, but if you watch
the trailers there isn’t any dialogue from the characters and I never realized
that the film was in Spanish. I wonder now if this will affect how well it does
in theatres. I loved
THE DEVIL’S BACKBONE, and that was also in Spanish, but I really do
wonder if that will be a deterrent for some people to see the movie.
