From the very beginning, there were frequent rumors that a younger version of Morpheus would play a part in The Matrix 4. Early reports even claimed that Michael B. Jordan was up for the role, but with the casting of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, fans have wondered if he could be playing Morpheus.

The first trailer for The Matrix: Resurrections was unveiled earlier today and for many, that was all the evidence they needed to confirm that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was Morpheus. I’ve got to admit, if by some chance he’s not playing Morpheus, well, he’s clearly shopping at the same store. If you need a little more to convince you, Yayha Abdul-Mateen II took to Instagram to post a still of himself from The Matrix 4 with a simple caption – Morpheus.

He definitely looks the part. In addition to Yahya Abdul Mateen-II, The Matrix: Resurrections also stars Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Christina Ricci, Telma Hopkins, Eréndira Ibarra, Tony Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Brian J. Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, and of course, Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss. The Matrix: Resurrections will hit theaters on December 22, 2021.
