Interview: Matt Reeves Talks The Batman!

Matt Reeves always rises to the occasion. It was clear when he gave us the acclaimed hit feature Cloverfield back in 2008 that he had something special. Since then, the director offered up the excellent Let Me In – the surprisingly effective remake of Let the Right One In. In addition to that, he crafted the stunning Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War of the Planet of the Apes. Both films found universal acclaim from audiences and critics alike. And now, Matt Reeves, who fantastically breathes new life into familiar features, brings us The Batman…and I got a chance to interview him. Starring Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Colin Farrell, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis, and more, The Batman lands in theatres on March 4th. And yes, I’ll be going again.

There are certain filmmakers that not only do you enjoy their work, they also happen to be incredibly pleasant to speak with. Matt is one of them. While we did not get a ton of time to chat, I did get to ask him about the speculation from the fans, and the influences that truly inspired him to bring this to life. Reeves went into great detail about what led to this, with a few impressive influences. It’s thrilling to see a filmmaker take on a project such as this, and approach it in a very different way than expected. As mentioned, The Batman is just a couple of weeks away from release, and I can’t wait to return to Matt Reeves’ take on Gotham’s most iconic resident.
