Benedict Wong says he would love to see the MCU’s Wong get a solo Disney+ series

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star Benedict Wong has responded to calls for his MCU character, Wong, to receive a solo series on Disney+. The Marvel veteran has already appeared in six Marvel-related projects, seeing his character’s popularity grow with each endeavor. Wong began his MCU journey as the humble librarian of Kamar Taj, but after befriending Stephen Strange, Wong found himself mixed up in a series of multiversal shenanigans. Wong became the Sorcerer Supreme when Strange was snapped out of existence by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, and he’s been a sentry for the realm of magic ever since. Wong has become a beloved character by the MCU fandom during his journey, so perhaps it’s time for him to take center stage.

Speaking on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Wong excitedly accepted the idea of starring in a solo series for Disney+. Wong thinks there’s plenty of material to explore, primarily if you focus on the five years that Stephen Strange had disappeared.

“I’d love it; I’d love it… You know what happens to Wong during the Infinity War. You know there’s a five-year period we could start with,” Wong said to Fallon when asked about tackling a solo series.

Fallon then asked Wong to tease what he thinks the show could be about, to which Wong responded, “Well, he [Wong] took a deep breath because it was pretty full-on out there, wasn’t it? Training his students at Kamar Taj…”

I am a proud member of Benedict Wong’s Wong-tourage, and would love to see him star in a Disney+ solo series. Wong has always been a highlight of the MCU pantheon for me, and I’m sure he’s vanquished plenty of evil during his time as the Sorcerer Supreme. Disney+ is the perfect platform to explore his story and fill us in on those missing years.

Thankfully, you can see Wong doing plenty of derring-do in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. I saw the movie last night, and I’m pleased to report that Wong plays a significant role in Marvel’s latest blockbuster. Also, the film is positively insane. At one point, I shouted, “Holy fuck!” during a pivotal scene. I never do stuff like that, but this movie brought it out of me. My advice is to avoid any spoilers if you can.
