Happy Star Wars Day

It is May 4th! Happy Star Wars Day! Lucasfilm is commemorating it this year by releasing a new trailer to the newest film from the Star Wars universe — The Mandalorian and Grogu. This final trailer is more of a legacy celebration by integrating clips of scenes from the past theatrical films with clips from this upcoming chapter. It binds the movies together with the theme of the old taking care of the young, then the young taking care of the old in a cycle. Lucasfilm has also released a new poster for the movie, which you can check out below!

Bigger than the show

The Mandalorian and Grogu aims to be bigger than the show. Jon Favreau has filmed the movie for the IMAX format and we may now have the runtime for the film. Star Wars Holocron posted on X that Odeon Cinemas has listed The Mandalorian and Grogu on their website with a runtime of 2 hours and 20 minutes. This makes it just a bit shorter than the longest entry in the film series, which was The Last Jedi at 2 hours and 32 minutes.

This is the way

The official synopsis from Disney reads,
“The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu. Directed by Jon Favreau, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu also stars Sigourney Weaver and is produced by Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Ian Bryce, with music composed by Ludwig Göransson.”

As stated by the synopsis, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, who were both instrumental in making the series on Disney+, return to bring the story to the big screen. And Sigourney Weaver joins the fray. There are yet to be further details revealed. “I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau said. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.” Fomer Lucasfilm head, Kathleen Kennedy, added, “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen.”

The Madalorian and Grogu will be releasing in theaters on May 22.
