PLOT: Feature-length version of the final two episodes (episode 8 and 9) of The Amazing Digital Circus, showing the conclusion of the cast of characters trapped in a digital realm under the mercy of an unstable ringmaster.
REVIEW: 2026 has really been the year of YouTubers breaking into the theatrical film industry. From Obsession to Backrooms, it’s been cool to see people from the platform having tremendous success. Now it’s Gooseworx’s turn with The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act, which combines the final two episodes of the series and finally answers the question of what is truly going on in this digital realm. But will non-fans of the series even be interested?
The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act follows a group of people trapped in a virtual reality world, trying to figure out an exit plan. After a nearly three-year journey, it’s time to see this story come to a conclusion. The characters are trying to figure out their purpose and manage it to varying degrees. I was most intrigued by Caine, the AI who is essentially the warden of this digital prison. Being an AI, his sole purpose is to help entertain the humans, but he takes a machine approach to it, and doesn’t understand that he’s torturing them, rather than helping. There’s a tragedy with his character that I enjoyed, and it makes a good point about AI not understanding the human element.
There will always be something charming about an animated film that is full of actual voice actors and not just celebrities for name recognition. Makes it easier to invest in the story and not feel like a commercial. The animation is always top tier, and there are moments that remind me of something I’d see in Toy Story. It’s really impressive that this all started as a YouTube series and shows that even small teams can create top-tier animation.

Since this is just the final two episodes versus something that was tailored for cinemas, it’s much more about emotional payoff than major spectacle. Most of the characters are at the end of their arcs, and there’s a lot of contemplation and realizations coming through. Admittedly, there is a pretty big reveal that the show has been building towards all season. Obviously, I can’t discuss it, but it’s very well done and, even as a newbie, I still understood what they were going for, and it was very satisfying. It makes a very salient point and is much more than surface-level.
While I clearly wasn’t nearly as invested as the fans of the show that were fully cosplayed out at my screening, I was still able to appreciate the execution of a good finale. I felt properly caught up and able to take in all of the emotional beats. The animation was quite beautiful, with it combining with the score for a truly mesmerizing experience. In many ways, it seems like a stoner’s ideal movie experience.
I’m really not sure how this will play to someone with absolutely zero knowledge of the series beforehand, as the presentation itself is fairly ethereal. I went with someone who’s a big fan, so I was able to get a rundown and ask questions afterward, so I felt like I was a step up from going in completely blind. I’ve never fully understood this whole “seeing a finale of a TV show in theaters” trend that’s been gaining steam in recent years, but I’ll support anything that keeps theaters alive. Here’s hoping the creators can make something that has broader appeal, as they’re clearly very talented.
The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act is now playing in theaters from Fathom Entertainment.
