R.I.P. My Bloody Valentine 3D Miner / stuntman Chris Carnel has passed away

Eleven years ago, director Patrick Lussier brought us one of the best updates of an '80s horror property with a 3D take on the 1981 slasher classic MY BLOODY VALENTINE. Lussier's film, MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D (which you can watch HERE), featured stuntman Chris Carnel as a homicidal maniac who dressed up as a mine worker – in fact, he's credited as The Miner – and used a pickaxe to slash his way through the rest of the cast. Carnel delivered a slasher performance that could stand alongside some of the greats… and today we have to share the sad news that he has passed away.

Online reports indicate that Carnel died in a motorcycle accident last Sunday.

Carnel made his screen debut in the 1989 martial arts film THE MASTER, and over the years earned acting credits on films like BEST OF THE BEST II, the 2010 version of THE CRAZIES, CHROMESKULL: LAID TO REST 2, and BIRDS OF PREY. He racked up over 100 credits for his stuntwork, starting with 1995's BEST OF THE BEST 3: NO TURNING BACK. Projects he was on the stunt team for include ENEMY OF THE STATE, PANIC ROOM, SPIDER-MAN, THE DEVIL'S REJECTS, HATCHET, IRON MAN, FRIDAY THE 13TH 2009, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, and BONE TOMAHAWK. He was even fight choreographer on CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER.

It's terrible to hear that we've lost Carnel under these tragic circumstances. Our condolences go out to his family, friends, and fans.

Several people who have worked with Carnel have shared tributes to him on Twitter, and some of those tributes can be seen here:
