We lost Sam Neill last month, but the iconic actor still has a handful of movies set for release, which apparently includes The Legend of Zelda. Deadline first reported that Neill will appear in the film, but there’s no indication of which character he plays. This will be one of Neill’s final movies.
The Cast of The Legend of Zelda Grows
The Legend of Zelda wrapped production in April, but we haven’t known much about the cast beyond the two main characters, Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. That all changed today.
In addition to Sam Neill, it’s been announced that Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid’s Tale), Dichen Lachman (Severance), and Uli Latukefu (Young Rock) will also appear in The Legend of Zelda. It’s not known exactly who Strahovski plays, but she’s said to be a queen character. Lachman is Impa, the bodyguard and advisor to Princess Zelda, and Latukefu is Ganondorf, the main villain.
The Legend of Zelda is directed by Wes Ball from a script by T. S. Nowlin. It will hit theaters on April 30, 2027.
The first Legend of Zelda game was released by Nintendo in 1986 and follows Link, a young hero who seeks to save the Kingdom of Hyrule and rescue Princess Zelda from Ganon, an evil villain who seeks the Triforce to gain ultimate power. The first game was followed by nearly twenty sequels, and the franchise has become one of Nintendo’s most acclaimed.
Sam Neill’s Final Movies
As mentioned above, Neill had completed production on several movies before his death. He’s set to star alongside Kaitlyn Dever, Dan Stevens, Jack O’Connell, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Matthew Modine, and Delroy Lindo in Godzilla x Kong: Supernova. The Monsterverse sequel, which was directed by Grant Sputore and written by David Callaham, will hit theaters on March 26, 2027.
He will also appear in The Last Resort, a romantic comedy starring Daisy Ridley and Alden Ehrenreich. The film follows a hotel executive who is sent to scout a new resort location in the Philippines. She becomes captivated by the breathtaking scenery and the warmth of its people — and also meets Ben, a charming expatriate charter pilot. It doesn’t have an official release yet, but is expected to drop in 2027.
