The secrets of Verity are about to hit the big screen, and Amazon MGM Studios has released four new clips and a featurette from the psychological thriller ahead of its theatrical release this Friday. Based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, Verity stars Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett in a story about a writer who discovers that the truth can be much more disturbing than fiction.

Directed by Michael Showalter, Verity follows Lowen Ashleigh (Johnson), a struggling writer who is hired to finish the popular book series of acclaimed author Verity Crawford (Hathaway). Verity is unable to complete the books herself after a car accident leaves her badly injured and incapacitated, so her husband Jeremy Crawford (Hartnett) offers Lowen a lucrative opportunity to finish the series. Lowen moves into the Crawford family’s remote estate to go through Verity’s work, but she soon discovers a disturbing manuscript that contains chilling revelations about the author and her family. As Lowen digs deeper, she begins to question what is real and what isn’t.
The movie is described as a seductive psychological thriller, with Lowen caught between fiction and reality, manipulation and attraction, and opportunity and obsession.
Who stars in Verity?
Along with Hathaway, Johnson, and Hartnett, the Verity cast includes Ismael Cruz Cordova and Brady Wagner.
Hathaway plays the mysterious title character after previously working with Showalter on The Idea of You. Johnson stars as Lowen, while Hartnett plays Jeremy, Verity’s husband.
Showalter directs Verity from a screenplay by Nick Antosca, based on Hoover’s novel. Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Stacey Sher, Showalter, Jordana Mollick, Hathaway, and Hoover are among the film’s producers.
Verity is rated R for sexual content, some nudity, language, violence, and bloody images.

Verity opens exclusively in theaters on October 2, 2026.
