Nicholas Galitzine could be heading to Sleepy Hollow. The Red, White & Royal Blue and Masters of the Universe star is in final negotiations to play Ichabod Crane opposite Sydney Sweeney in Hollow, Sony Pictures’ upcoming reimagining of Washington Irving’s classic supernatural story. The casting news comes from Deadline, which reports that Galitzine is close to landing the role.
If the deal closes, Galitzine will join a cast that already includes Sweeney as Katrina Van Tassel and Belmont Cameli as Brom Bones. Those three characters form the center of the supernatural love triangle at the heart of filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer’s new take on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
Nicholas Galitzine could play Ichabod Crane in Hollow
Galitzine has become one of Hollywood’s most sought-after young actors following his breakout performance in the Amazon romantic comedy Red, White & Royal Blue. He followed that up by starring opposite Anne Hathaway in The Idea of You, earning strong reviews for his performance. His recent projects also include playing He-Man in Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming Masters of the Universe movie and appearing in the Netflix war drama The Mosquito Bowl.
Sydney Sweeney and Belmont Cameli are also starring in Hollow
Sweeney (The Housemaid) is set to play Katrina Van Tassel, the central character in this reimagining, while Cameli will portray Brom Bones. Cameli recently starred in the Prime Video series Off Campus, which helped bring him wider attention.
The project originated with Beer, who has spent several years developing a new take on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. When the movie version wasn’t moving forward as quickly as she hoped, she turned her idea into a novel called Hollow, which she sold to Putnam, an imprint of Penguin Random House. The novel is scheduled to be published in fall 2027.
Rather than telling the familiar story primarily through Ichabod Crane’s perspective, Hollow puts Katrina Van Tassel at the center. She is no longer simply the romantic prize in a rivalry between Crane and Brom Bones. Instead, she becomes the central figure in a dangerous mystery and seductive supernatural love triangle. The story blends gothic atmosphere, psychological intrigue, and thriller elements into a contemporary reinvention of Irving’s classic tale.
Lindsey Anderson Beer is writing and directing the Sleepy Hollow reimagining
Beer is writing and directing Hollow, which will be based on her forthcoming novel. She previously made her feature directorial debut with Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, the Stephen King adaptation that premiered at Fantastic Fest and went on to break Paramount+ viewership records. Her other writing credits include the Netflix film Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, which she also executive produced.
LuckyChap, Beer’s Lab Brew banner, and Sweeney’s Honey Trap banner are producing the film. Sweeney will also produce, making Hollow the first film produced by her Honey Trap company. Sony Pictures acquired the project after a competitive situation, with Deadline previously reporting that the studio moved quickly to secure the movie and begin assembling its cast.
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow has inspired numerous adaptations over the years, including Disney’s animated classic, the Fox television series Sleepy Hollow, and Tim Burton’s 1999 film starring Johnny Depp.
