The Terminal List: Savage Son will continue the series with Chris Pratt returning

Even though it took four whole years for a second season of The Terminal List to premiere (not counting the prequel series Dark Wolf), the series’ return seems to have been a substantial hit for Amazon Prime Video. Despite having only premiered two weeks ago, the streamer is already ordering more, with an adaptation of the third book in Jack Carr’s series, Savage Son, next on the docket. THR broke the news, but their phrasing is confusing. They are making it sound like it’s a separate spin-off from the show, even though they state that Chris Pratt is set to return as James Reece.

For those who have read Carr’s books, you’ll know that Savage Son is the third novel in the series, following the original Terminal List and its sequel, True Believer, which was the basis of the second season. By choosing Savage Son, it sounds like they are simply making a third season, yet they are calling it a spin-off, like Dark Wolf was (it was a prequel that centered around season one antihero-turned-villain Ben Edwards, played by Taylor Kitsch).

Savage Son (which many fans rank as the best James Reece novel thanks to the brutal action) centers around Reece going up against the Russian mafia, culminating in a Most Dangerous Game-style island hunt. Based on the book, expect Tom Hopper to return as Raife Hastings, as well as potentially Constance Wu as Katie Buranek. That said, she has her own series in the works, with HBO Max having just ordered a limited-series sequel to Crazy Rich Asians.

The THR article says no showrunners are yet attached, so it’s possible there’s some behind-the-scenes turnover, but truth be told, it really does sound like this is just Terminal List Season 3, and that it’s possible the writers of the THR piece weren’t familiar with the novels. At any rate, it’s great this series is turning into such a profitable one for Prime Video, as there are seven books in the series so far, so it can go on for a long time.
