Kirsten Dunst to tunnel into A Minecraft Movie sequel alongside Jack Black and Jason Momoa

After causing chaos in theaters with outlandish actions related to Lava Chicken and a feisty Chicken Jockey, A Minecraft Movie is returning to build a brand-new sequel with high-profile actors tunneling their way into the franchise. Today, Deadline revealed that Kirsten Dunst (Interview with the Vampire, Civil War, Roofman) is joining the cast of the forthcoming sequel.

Who’s returning for the Minecraft Movie sequel?

Dunst joins returning cast members Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Matt Berry, and Jennifer Coolidge. A Minecraft Movie brings the popular video game franchise from Mojang Studios to life on the silver screen. Plot details for Legendary’s A Minecraft Movie sequel remain a mystery, though we can be sure that we’ll be meeting some new characters when the follow-up film takes cinemas by storm.

A Minecraft Movie features Jack Black as Steve, Jason Momoa as Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison, Sebastian Hansen as Henry, Emma Meyers as Natalie, and Danielle Brooks as Dawn. In A Minecraft Movie, four misfits are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into a bizarre cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they’ll have to master this world while embarking on a quest with an unexpected expert crafter.

Is Kirsten Dunst playing Alex?

Who is Kirsten Dunst playing in the Minecraft Movie sequel? We don’t know yet. Is she playing Alex, the red-haired woman introduced during the first film’s post-credits sequence? In the first film, Saturday Night Live alum Kate McKinnon played Alex, but we never saw her face. Dunst may take over the role for the sequel, but that’s not confirmed. Who is Alex? Alex is the second default skin and Steve’s counterpart in the Minecraft video game series. She’s likely to play a significant role in the sequel, but again, Dunst’s role is not yet known.

Why make another Minecraft movie? That’s easy. Money! Lots and lots of money! When A Minecraft Movie hit theaters, it took the box office by storm, grossing $961M+ worldwide. While Warner Bros. and Legendary thought the movie would perform well, I don’t think anyone anticipated the live-action comedy making almost a billion dollars. Thankfully, the Minecraft sequel has many of the original creators returning for another round, including Jared Hess as the sequel’s director.

I’ve yet to see A Minecraft Movie, but I am curious. I want to watch it, I just haven’t made the time. I want to know what all the hub-bub is about. Did you see the Minecraft movie? Did you like it? Are you looking forward to the sequel? Do you think Kirsten Dunst is playing Alex? Let us know in the comments section below.
