In the first film, Saturday Night Live alum Kate McKinnon played Alex, but we never saw her face. Dunst may take over the role for the sequel, but that’s not confirmed. Who is Alex? Alex is the second default skin and Steve’s counterpart in the Minecraft video game series. She’s likely to play a significant role in the sequel, but again, Dunst’s role is not yet known.
Why make another Minecraft movie? That’s easy. Money! Lots and lots of money! When A Minecraft Movie hit theaters, it took the box office by storm, grossing $961M+ worldwide. While Warner Bros. and Legendary thought the movie would perform well, I don’t think anyone anticipated the live-action comedy making almost a billion dollars. Thankfully, the Minecraft sequel has many of the original creators returning for another round, including Jared Hess as the sequel’s director.
