Neill Blomkamp‘s ELYSIUM is easily one of my most anticipated movies of the year, and I haven’t seen a single moment of footage. This was the guy who brought us DISTRICT 9, so his sophomore effort is going to be scrutinized like crazy. With a cast featuring Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Diego Luna, William Fichtner, and Alice Braga, how can you go wrong? Today we get our first look at two new images, one featuring Damon and the other our first shot of Alice Braga in the movie.

ELYSIUM has only revealed a couple of images so far, but we do have the official plot synopsis:

In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

ELYSIUM is already looking to share the same gritty style as DISTRICT 9, but with a larger budget and a more recognizable cast, it has not be able to slip under the radar prior to release. We are all waiting with bated breath for the trailer. Seeing as the August 9, 2013 release is coming soon, hopefully we get a look this month.
