Event Horizon Paul W.S. Anderson

It has probably been twenty years since the last time I sat down to watch director Paul W.S. Anderson's sci-fi horror film EVENT HORIZON. I enjoyed that movie when I saw it in the theatre when it was first released in 1997 and watched it a few more times after it hit home video, but then drifted away from it. My memory tells me that it remains Anderson's best film and I like that it has a solid cult following so many years down the line from its release, so I should revisit it soon.

Especially since Amazon and Paramount Television have announced that they are developing a series based on the film.

Scripted by Philip Eisner, EVENT HORIZON told the story of

a spaceship that disappeared after testing an experimental gravity drive capable of creating an artificial black hole that was meant to allow the ship to travel to distant points in the galaxy. A rescue crew and the gravity drive’s inventor are sent to investigate after the ship mysteriously reappears, only to discover that the ship traveled to a hellish dimension outside of the known universe that infects it with a sinister sentience, leading to multiple deaths.

One could say that it's like HELLRAISER in space, but better than the actual HELLRAISER movie that was partially set in space.

Still, the announcement of a series based on EVENT HORIZON would make me shrug if it weren't for the person Amazon and Paramount have chosen to executive produce and direct the potential series. That person is Adam Wingard, whose films include YOU'RE NEXT, THE GUEST, BLAIR WITCH, DEATH NOTE, and the upcoming GODZILLA VS. KONG.

Executive producing the show with Wingard are Jeremy Platt and the film's producers Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin.

We'll be keeping a close eye on the development of this return to the concept of EVENT HORIZON.
