Over the last year, we have been following the progress of a documentary called The Shark That Roared, which focuses on Jaws: The Revenge and is aiming for a Summer 2027 release – making its way out into the world just in time to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Jaws: The Revenge. While we wait to see that documentary, director Mike Gencarelli is already hard at work on his next documentary, Beyond the Horizon of Madness: The Horrors of Sam Neill!

What has been said about Beyond the Horizon of Madness?

Gencarelli provided the following information: “I love Sam Neill. I love horror and I love the ’90s. Sam Neill had a great run of horror in the ’90s including Event Horizon and In the Mouth of Madness. These are two of my favorite horror films…EVER. They both were not successful at the box office but have become cult classics over the last few decades. I wanted to make a movie that dove back into the ’90s to celebrate these films in Sam Neill’s library.

Interviews with In the Mouth of Madness director John Carpenter and cast member Julie Carmen have already been locked in, as are interviews with Neill’s Event Horizon co-stars Jack Noseworthy and Kathleen Quinlan.

Gencarelli has launched a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGogo to cover travel costs so he and his crew can get to the various interview subjects, and to help with the film’s production and editing phases. If all goes as planned, he expects to get this documentary released in October 2027, just in time for Halloween viewing.

What is In the Mouth of Madness about?

Directed by Carpenter from a script by Michael De Luca, In the Mouth of Madness has the following synopsis:

An insurance investigator, John Trent, is hired to find a missing, best-selling horror author named Sutter Cane. As Trent tracks Cane to a fictional New England town, he realizes Cane’s apocalyptic novels are driving humanity to madness and rewriting reality

What is Event Horizon about?

Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson from a script written by Philip Eisner, Event Horizon tells the following story:

After disappearing for seven years, revolutionary spaceship Event Horizon is rediscovered. The team of scientists sent to investigate find that the entire crew is dead, and a terrifying, malevolent presence is lurking on board.
