Adam Wingard’s Face-Off will be a direct sequel to the original

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

At the same IGN Fan Fest where director Adam Wingard (Godzilla vs. Kong) talked about how that film would have a definitive winner, he also talked about his next project Face-Off. Namely, that it won't be a reboot or remake, but in fact a direct sequel to the original.

Here's the pertinent quote:

I would never make a remake of Face Off…I would never make a reboot. And I've seen a lot of people, even after I said that this is a direct sequel, they keep calling it a reboot hybrid sequel or remake hybrid sequel. It's none of that.

This is Face Off TwoAnd I can't say what that means exactly, but this is either going to be the definitive follow-up to that movie and everything that entails, or I'm not going to make it, because everything's got to line up perfectly. Face-Off Two. That's what it is,” Wingard emphasised. “It is Face Off Two, and I'll just leave it at that.

And here's the official synopsis for the original film, directed action maestro John Woo, and starring John Travolta and Nicolas Cage:

Obsessed with bringing terrorist Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage) to justice, FBI agent Sean Archer (John Travolta) tracks down Troy, who has boarded a plane in Los Angeles. After the plane crashes and Troy is severely injured, possibly dead, Archer undergoes surgery to remove his face and replace it with Troy's. As Archer tries to use his disguise to elicit information about a bomb from Troy's brother, Troy awakes from a coma and forces the doctor who performed the surgery to give him Archer's face.

Meanwhile, no official start or release date (if it even ends up happening), but we'll keep you updated nonetheless!

So what do you guys think? Fans of Face-Off? If so, looking forward to a sequel? Either way, sound off below!
